Jilin ginseng, produced
in Jilin Province, is regarded as the king of all Chinese traditional herbal
medicines, and tops the list of the three treasures of Northeast China (ginseng,
marten, pilose antler).
Ginseng is called Renshen in
Chinese, for it has the shape of ren (human). It is a precious medicinal plant
that can increase physical and mental efficiency, improve the accuracy of work
by promoting concentration, boost metabolism, help regulate body functions and
strengthen the functions that regulate other body functions. Polysaccharides in
ginseng are strong immune system modulators, making us highly resistant to
disease. That's why "ginseng" was given the botanical name Panax, from the
Greek, meaning "all healing".
China is the earliest country in the world
that discovered, applied, cultivated and processed ginseng for medical purposes.
The Chinese have long believed in the curative powers of ginseng and have for
several thousand years applied the root to a variety of medicines and curative
soups. The curative affects include all aspects of the restoration of body and
mind.
There are two types of ginseng which are
considered to be the real herb, or root. Panax ginseng, grown in Asia, has a
warming effect on the body and is more potent; it is either white or red. The
other, Panax Quinquefolius, is grown in North America, which has a cooling
effect on the body.
Jilin ginseng, grown in Changbai Mountains
of China is considered to be some of the finest cultivated Panax ginseng in the
world. Its Panax ginseng has gained the reputation of the authentic breed with
its high quality and mass production. Jilin ginseng is divided into the wild
ginseng and the cultivated ginseng, the former of which has richer medicinal
value. The wild ginseng grown in Changbai Mountains is said to be the most
precious. The cultivated ginseng is divided into the kinds of Ji'an Lu and
Fusong Lu by producing areas.
