1. Morphological
Character
China rose is a deciduous
shrub. The characters of branches vary with different species. There are
vertical type which is erect and can reach 100 to 150 centimeters in height,
dilated type which is 60 to 100 centimeters in height and grows outward,
dwarfing type or creeping type which is less than 30 centimeters in height, and
climbing type which grows adhering to other substances with vine-shaped
branches. The branches of China rose all have prickles with few exceptions. The
shape, density and size of the prickles vary with species. Its leaves are
alternate, ovoid
or long circular, and usually three to seven small leaves compose odd pinnate
compound leaves. The leaf surface is flat and lubricous, or coarse and
lusterless, with indented leaf edges. The flower grows on top of the branch, by
itself or in cluster. The shape and number of petals vary with different
species. The flowers are colorful and some species have faint fragrance or
aroma.

Planting
China rose can be reproduced
by means of cuttage, engrafting, seeding or out-body tissue culture. The most
commonly used methods are cottage and engrafting. Cottage could be performed at
any time of a year. If seeding is performed in spring, it will blossom in the
fall of the same year.
