It belongs to the Bovidae family of Artiodactyla order. Its scientific name is Capricornis crispus (Latin), or Taiwan Serow (English).      

It is a small-size animal with a total body-length of only 80 to 114 centimeters and a very short tail. The animal has short hair all over in dark tan, with black back and yellow spots on the jaw, larynx and nape. Both male and female have tapered horns, keen-edged horn point slightly recurving.

Taiwan Serow perches on bare rocks at an elevation of 1,000 to 3,000 meters or in woods of steep mountainous area. It mostly moves about alone and is most active in early morning and at night, feeding on tender leaves of plants. Their estrus is in October to November yearly, with a gestation period of about 7 months, one baby per fetus.

It is distributed among the comparatively primitive forests of Taiwan, with a small quantity.
