With the aliases of Grey Langur and Fashiye
Langur, it belongs to the Cercopithecidae Family of Primates order. Its
scientific name is Presbytis phayrei (Latin), or Semnopithecus phayrei
(English).
It body length is 55 to 71 centimeters, tail
length 60 to 80 centimeters and body weight 7.2 to 10.5 kilograms. It is wrapped
with silver gray hair, with black cheek. The skin around the eyes and mouth is
pale for the lack of pigment. Its four limbs are slender. Its coronal hair is
light silver gray, like a crown when growing long. Its ventral side is misty
gray or light white. Between eyebrows and forehead is comparatively long black
hair, protruding forward just like black long eyebrows.
It inhabits in tropical and subtropical
jungles, dwelling in groups of 10 to 30. Good at climbing and jumping, it has a
certain moving route and seldom gets down to the ground. When startled they
often flee in order. It feeds on young leaves, flowers and fruits, as well as
bird ovas and birdies.
The stock on hand of this species now is
12,000 to 17,000 head, mainly distributed in the southwest of Yunnan
Province.
