Sichuan Partridge

The bird belongs to the Phasianidae family of Galliformes order of Aves. Its scientific name is Arborophila rufipectus (Latin), or Sichuan Partridge (English). In the world it is only distributed in Sichuan Province in western China.       

Its body length is about 30 centimeters. The male's forehead is white and vertex maroon. The back neck is ochreous orange, interspersed with black stripes. The back, tail, middle and small tectrices and tertial remiges are tea green, with moth-shaped lines. Auricular feathers are brown yellow, and the upper margin of eyebrows is white. The top of larynx has black lines. The upper breast and sides of the upper body are gray, interspersed with maroon spots. The lower breast and belly are white. The vertex of the female is olive green, and the back is tea brown. Tectices of alae are tea green. There are black spots on the chin and laryngeal. The upper breast and two sides of the upper body are brown gray. The beak is black and the feet are ochreous brown.

Sichuan Partridge usually inhabits in shrubs of forests and in canebrakes at an elevation of 1,300 to 1,800 meters, mainly feeding on botanic leaves, culms and fruit, as well as mini-insects. It builds nests in oval sphericity on the ground. Its breeding season is from April to June, with 3 to 7 eggs per brood.
