With the alias of tiger-head eagle, it
belongs to the Accipitridae family of Falconiformes order. Its scientific name
is Haliaeetus pelagicus (Latin), or Kamchatkan Sea Eagle (English).
It is a large-size bird of prey with a
full-length of about 100 centimeters. It has black and tan feathers with taupe
longitudinal grain. Its forehead, shoulder, waist, rectrices, tail tectices and
legs are all white. Its beak and feet are deep yellow.
Kamchatkan Sea Eagle
inhabits in high trees near rivers and morass, mainly preying on fishes, as well
as waterfowls, rodents and rotten bodies. It plaits nests in rock walls or great
trees with deadwood, and spawns 2 white eggs per nest.
Kamchatkan Sea Eagle
is mainly distributed in Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Hebei, Shanxi, and Taiwan
provinces. This species has distribution in Honghe Morass Natural Protection
Area of Heilongjiang Province, but without breeding corroboration. In the rest
areas, they are all passing migrants, occasionally hibernate in Taiwan Island.
