The bird belongs to the Phasianidae family
of Galliformes order. Its scientific name is Tragopan satyra (Latin), or Satyr
Tragopan (English).
Its full-length is 57 to 79 centimeters. The
head of the male is black, with crista. The upper body is mostly scarlet,
thickly dotted with white ovoid spots of black brim. The back of the body
gradually turns dark brown. The rectrices are black and tan. Its face and naked
skin of the larynx are blue. The color of tectices of the alae is like that of
the back feather. The remiges are black and tan with brown stains. The upper
breast of lower body is crimson, with white ovoid spots of black brim. Below the
abdomen it gradually turns to brown. The male bird is brown, with mixed spots of
black and brown.
Satyr Tragopan
inhabits in evergreen broad-leaved forests and bamboo forests at an elevation of
3,000 meters, feeding on vegetable food. It is a kind of resident bird, mainly
distributed in southwestern Tibet.
