Castle Cutlture and Arts Exhibitioin

Experiencing French castle culture and appreciating the beauty and luxury of castles are important parts of the 2007 Sino-French Cultural Exchange, and a French Castle Culture and Arts Exhibition is being held in Lafayette Castle in Beijing from May 26 to July 28.

More than 20 ancient French castles and museums, including the Versailles Palace, have brought their priceless art collections to Beijng for the exhibition in Lafayette Castle, in the city's suburbs. More than 200 French pieces, insured for 5 million Euros, are on display.

The exhibits include famous paintings, handcrafted tapestries, china, jewelry and furniture. These collections vividly depict the daily life of castle owners from the 12th to the 19th century, giving viewers a deeper understanding of French castle culture.

A traditional French handcrafts show will be held during this exhibition, when more than 10 renowned French painters, tapestry weavers, bronze smiths, wood sculptors and landscape designers will display their traditional techniques that are used to repair and protect the cultural heritage sites.

In addition, there will be a gala French royal banquet. French chefs will cook traditional royal dishes for guests. The dinner will be hosted by Capetian heir Prince Louis de Bourbon and his wife Mary-Margaret at the end of July. A picnic on the lawn and a masquerade will mark another two of the Lafayette castle's highlights.

The exhibition is open everyday, with information and touring services available in Chinese, French and English.
