2007 China-France Culture Communication Festival

Poets from both countries participated in the event's opening ceremony that evening. Apart from poem recitations, impromptu performances by a French singer and Chinese painters and calligraphists also made the event lively and interesting.

On April 20, a panel on poem composition and translation began at the Humble Administration Garden in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. Distinguished French poets G¨¦rard Mac¨¦, Jean-Claude Pinson and Philippe Beck attended the event and recited their poetic works that feature three different styles of French poems - philosophical, radical and calm.

The event also allowed poets from various background to express their views on the survivability of poems and poets in the process of cultural globalization.

Che Qianzi, a noted poet in Suzhou, said that Suzhou in the ancient time was a place where Chinese poets got together and exchanged their views on poems, and "The Spring of Poets" revived the tradition and expanded it to an international cultural communication activity.
