China's "Culture Deficit"
With more than 5,000 years of history, China is generally considered to be a
country with a rich traditional culture. But recent newspaper headlines claim
the country is suffering from a "culture deficit", due to over-commercialization
and a lack of talented workers.

The Hong Kong -based Takungpao newspaper says China's lack of
profound cultural products has created a vacuum that allows new cultural
products like the Super Girls reality TV show and Lecture Room TV program become
instant hits. It says the public are starving for good cultural products, which
guarantees the success of shallow TV programs.
Takungpao lists three reasons for the "culture deficit" in China. Their
commentary is outlined below.
Lack of Good Authors For Cultural
Works
Most cultural organizations are underfunded and unable to attract talented
people to working in the culture industry. State-owned organizations are also to
blame, because they're famous for creating an environment devoid of creativity.
