Huang Yique:Puppet Show Master

By the Spring Festival of the year 1990, millions of people watched the "monkey show" on TV. The "monkey" and the trainer Huang Yique made a deep impression and were spread throughout the country. The 63-year- old man had never imagined the influence of his performances since he began to learn marionette playing at the age of 13. Huang was a hardworking marionette player as well as playwright and prop-maker. In his hands the puppets could dance, ride a bicycle and even play guitar. Due to renovation of the marionette he has made a great contribution to the traditional Chinese culture. He was also the father of the modern marionette play.
