· Tangshan Chinese Shadow Puppet Company
The art of Chinese shadow theatre, whose origins go back to the Wanli period of the Ming dynasty, rose to its heights at the end of the Qing dynasty. The Tangshan company, created in 1943, breathed new life into the vast repertoire of Chinese shadow theatre.
· Shenzhen Lion Dance Group
The lion dance is a very important tradition in China. It is usually performed during holidays and festive happenings, like during Chinese New Year, the opening of a new restaurant, or a wedding. The dance brings success, luck and happiness and chases away evil spirits.
· Poem of Kung fu - Nine Scrolls
Nine Scrolls is a spectacularly original dance theatre piece direct from Beijing that combines Chinese kung fu with dancing. This award winning production will take you on an historical and cultural journey featuring 27 performers, including 10 year old MIAO Shuaifeng and star of the show LI Bolin, extraordinary physical movements, and original dance routines amid a sea of vivid colours.

About Europalia Arts Festival
Europalia is a major international arts festival held every two years to celebrate one invited country’s cultural heritage. Its name is a combination of two words: “Europe” and “Opalia,” an ancient Roman harvest festival held in mid-December in honor of Ops, earth-goddess and fertility deity.
