The Overseas Chinese New Year Carol Singing Group and Myanmar-Guangdong Music Band are leading in staging performances with songs and dances on the 1st and 3rd of the new calendar year. These events are to be graced by the community dignitaries and music lovers.
There are still some religious organizations, especially Chinese Buddhist temples, sponsoring charity activities to seek donations from people to help the aged and the poor in marking the festival.
In addition to the above activities to greet the spring festival, there will be a long festive procession by over a dozen local Myanmar-Chinese amateur lion and dragon dancing groups in the Chinatown Sunday afternoon which will add to the festive atmosphere, event organizer Zhou Baofu, who is a native of Guangdong province, told Xinhua.
Besides, a series of lion dance competitions, involving 10 amateur lion dancing groups of young local Myanmar-Chinese, are to take place and the contests will run for four nights from next Monday, the 1st day of the Chinese new year, he said.
The four-day competitions include ground dancing and on-table dancing, and the event is to end with a prize-presentation ceremony. Lion dancing groups winning the first and second prizes will repeat their wonderful performances to the satisfaction of the audiences, the organizer added.
The colorful new year festive activities of the Chinese residents in Yangon will last until the Lantern Festival, the 15thof the first lunar month.
