An Exhibition on Chinese Calligraphy, Painting and Study Objects being Held in Israel

On January 9th, 2010, an opening ceremony of the Exhibition on Chinese Calligraphy, Painting and Study Objects was held in the Wilfrid Israel Museum of Oriental Arts and Study in the city of Megiddo, Israel. H.E. Mr. Zhao Jun, Ambassador of the P. R. of China to the State of Israel and H.E. Mr. Hanan Erez, Mayor of Megiddo were invited to attend the opening ceremony and deliver the opening remarks respectively.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Zhao Jun said that the year of 2010 is the 18th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the P. R. of China and the State of Israel. The number of 18 in both Chinese and Jewish cultures is a special one, which contains the same meaning of luckiness and happiness. Various kinds of celebration activities will be held by the Chinese Embassy in this year and the Exhibition is the first event of the said activities.

It is the first time to display the art exhibits of Chinese calligraphy and painting in Israel. Chinese painting and calligraphy has a very long history, during which it formed its own art culture that is completely different from western painting, and has become an important token of Chinese art civilization. The development of Chinese painting and calligraphy is the blessing of the involvement of scholars. As one of the amusement forms for ancient scholars, Chinese painting and calligraphy has gradually become a voluntary pursuit for mind and soul cultivation.
