Major general and photographer shows his‘360 °View of the Motherland’
Famous brigade photographer Song Jupu, Chief Staff and vice political commissar of Military Training, held his large-scale public photo exhibition "360 ° View of the Motherland" on October 8 at the Chengdu Science and Technology Exhibition in Tianfu Square.
Song, known as a "weekend photographer” who enjoys taking lots of photos in his spare time, had 108 works on display. His work, beautifully framed, included ambitious formats of a variety of photos, the smallest one about 1.5 square meters and the largest 20 square meters. He took six years to shoot them, all caught by a special camera which can turn around to capture different angles of scenery.
It is the first time in the world photos using this type of camera have been held in an exhibition, creating a precedent in the domestic photography field.
Song was awarded the 2006 Top Ten Charm and Excellence Elite Award and has published several collections of his work, including "The Sacred Wutai Mountain of Buddhists", "Beiyue Hengshan", "Four Seasons of Mount Arshan" and "Danxia Landform". His work is frequently used by the media, and has joined many exhibitions and won several awards.
In 2005 Song won two gold medals at the 11th China International Photography Exhibition and was named Outstanding Album Photographer at the Pingyao International Photography Exhibition "Phoenix Cup" China. At the 28th session of the International Federation of Black and White Photography Biennial Film Festival in May 2006 his work "Longquan Temple, Bai Memorial Stone Archways" won the only individual gold medal and broke the "zero" record in the field. In 2007 he won the Special Contribution Award at the first China Army General Photography Exhibition.
In his nearly 40 years of military life, Major General Song Jupu was an engineer in the army. He deeply favored the mountains of the motherland and felt it was his military responsibility to capture them and other scenery to show to the Chinese people. He shot several valuable images while on holidays and during his spare time on business trips. By holding this exhibition, Song hopes to make more people aware of China’s beautiful natural environment by depicting the great rivers and mountains of the motherland using the special 360 ° perspective, thereby strengthening awareness of the people's territory and patriotic sentiment.
