Among the colorful stage performances over the seven-day National Day holiday, a concert series in Beijing stood out. Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts hosted a folk song expo week, bringing together folk music artists from around the world, to entertain with the music indigenous to their homeland.
Renowned folk bands from Czech Republic, UK and Romania were among the thirty folk bands from around the globe performing at the opening of Folk Music Week on October 3.
During six days, 38 folk groups from 24 countries showcased colorful song and dance legacies to the audiences at the National Center with the theater devoting all its halls to the folk expo. Several folk music shows were being held simultaneously, to give the crowd more chances to enjoy the entertainment. A total of 56 folk concerts were held during that week. The expo also extended its influence outside the theater, bringing the artists to schools and communities.
The following are introductions to some of the folk groups from around the world.
