African engraving has also played an important role in world modern art. Extraordinary artists of the 20 century, including Matisse, Picasso, Bulac and numerous German expressionist artists have been inspired from African wood carvings and bronze carvings. Brutalism, cubism, expressionism, abstractionism and surrealism are all have subtle relations with African woodcarving art.
And for the future with greater links being established between Africa and the world, such as the recent exhibition that has taken place in Beijing, expect to see even more influence and presence on the world scene from this truly dynamic art producer.
