The Pick of the Hungarian Bunch Arrives in Beijing

 

Sándor Román graduated from the National Ballet Academy in Budapest in 1983 as a student of Sándor Tímár. Together with his teacher, he took part in research and study of the folkdance traditions indifferent regions of Hungary and Transylvania.Soon he became a soloist at the Honved Ensemble, where he developed his own style of choreography such as Grandfathers dance or The Gardeners Dream.

As a member of the Budapest Dance Company and the National Folk dance Ensemble, he pushed Hungarian folklore treasure into a new direction.

After a year long study trip in the USA, he introduced contemporary dance techniques to Hungarian folk dance. In 2000 he created his own dance company called Experidance. As a choreographer he continued to for the National Theatre and several other theatres in Hungary, creating performances in different styles. He also worked on several films, working side by side with directors like Miklós Jancsó, GézaBereményi or Zsolt Meskó. He concentrated all the experience and professionalism that he gained in the world of theatre and film in the ensemble Experidance, and creates a new dance style.

In 2001 he wanted to learn about classical ballet and obtain a diploma from the National Dance Academy as a classical ballet master. He teaches in the Dance Academy and works with the Ballet Ensembles in Gyrand Pécs. By request, he also contributes to the choreography of the Slovenian National Opera in Llubljana and the Municipal Theatre of Bolzano. Román Sándor continues to strive for his dream of combining the art of ballet with Hungarian style elements and create a new wave of classical dance while keeping with its traditions.
