Unique Artistic Style Drawing More Attention
According to Zhang Peicheng, Liu Haisu Art Museum curator, realism is a painting technique; it can be used in traditional painting as well as in modern art, and is not out of date or useless. Russian oil painting has a strong element of realism, which is an important branch in the history of world art, and still has dynamic artistic attraction. With the popularity of the modern art, people began to view Russian realistic art from different point. The yearning for beauty is a narrative theme of Russian oil painting. With the disintegration of former Soviet Union, and influenced by European and American artistic thought, Russian oil paintings became colorful and stylish.
Another reason for the Russian oil paintings becoming popular in Shanghai is that their prices are much cheaper than European and American paintings. What’s more, a lot of Chinese have affection for Russia, and they like to collect Russian paintings or use them for decoration, boosting the growing demand for Russian oil paintings.
