The Swan Alights on Beijing

The English National Ballet will be presenting Swan Lake, an annual repertoire at the London Coliseum during Christmas and at the Royal Albert Hall during the summer, heating things up for Chinese New Year. It will be staged on the Century Theater from January.30 to February.3.

Derek Deane’s lavish production of Swan Lake was premiered in 2000 as a re-working of his hugely successful arena version. Praised by critics and audiences alike, this traditional ballet is sure to capture the heart of everyone who sees it.

Swan Lake brings the romance and high drama of the grand Russian ballet tradition alive. Perhaps the most famous of all ballets, it tells the story of Prince Siegfried’s love for the Swan Queen, Odette, and their battle against the evil magician, Rothbart.

Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, which undoubtedly features some of the most beautiful music in the classical ballet repertoire, is played by the full Orchestra of English National Ballet and the dramatic story line, spectacular sets and costumes and technically brilliant dancing from the Company’s 64 dancers make this ballet unmissable.
