Surrealistic Artist: Salvador Dali

Gala was legally divorced from her husband in 1932. In 1934 Dali and Gala were married in a civil ceremony in Paris and in 1958 in a church after Gala's former husband died in 1952. From around 1965 on, the two were seen less frequently together, but Gala continued to manage Dali's business affairs.

Versatile Artist

Apart from painting, Dalí's output included sculpture, book illustration, jewelry design, and work for the theatre. In collaboration with the director Luis Buñuel he also made the first Surrealist films---Un chien andalou (1929) and L'Age d'or (1930)---and he contributed a dream sequence to Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound (1945). He also wrote a novel, Hidden Faces (1944) and several volumes of flamboyant autobiography.
