Besides portraits of wealthy burghers, Rembrandt continued to paint numerous history pieces as well as producing a large series of etchings and drawings. In 1642 he painted the group portrait of the Company of Frans Banning Cocq, which became famous as the 'Night Watch'. In 1634 Rembrandt married Saskia Uylenburgh. But a year after their son Titus was born in 1641, Saskia died. Rembrandt took on a housekeeper, first Geertje Dircks and later Hendrickje Stoffels, with whom he had a daughter in 1654.
By now, however, the artist had built up considerable debts and was forced to sell his house and possessions. He died in 1669 and was buried in Amsterdam's Westerkerk.
