Selected Treasures in 2010’s Spring Auction

In 1992 his paintings were exhibited at the British Museum, the first time such an honor has been accorded to a living Chinese artist.

This oil painting was created during the Cultural Revolution. In 1975, Wu was ordered to go to Qingdao Sifang Machinery Factory, which produced railway carriages for the journey from Tanzania to Zambia. Wu was commissioned to compose two paintings to become the blueprints for the decorative brocade in the presidential suites. Thus the large sized painting Mount Kilimanjaro came into being, together with The Great Fall of Tanzania, which was auctioned by Poly in 2009.

The Grand Canyon in America

Wu Guanzhong

1990

The Grand Canyon was created as part of the same series as The Ancient Town of Jiaohe and The Ancient Town of Gaochang, which were created during 70’s. It is an excellent representation of Wu Guanzhong’s success in his own distinctive style and research.
