Slogans: a Sign of New China’s History

As time has passed, many slogans have witnessed the ups and downs of history. The sixty years’of changes and achievements of the People’s Republic of China can be traced to various slogans. As the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of new China approaches, some of the slogans that are most representative of these changes are as follows:

"Long live the invincible Marxism-Leninism and Stalin theory"——this is the slogan carved on a momument of the reviewing stand during the 1954 May Day parade in Nanjing.

"Devote our faithfulness to the communist party"——intellectuals at Nanjing institutions of higher learning show their loyalty to the party during a parade after the Anti-Rightist Movement in 1958.

The Anti-Rightist Movement between 1957 and 1958 was to purge alleged "rightists" within the Communist Party of China and abroad. The definition of "rightists" generally referred to those intellectuals who appeared to favor capitalism and class divisions and were against collectivization. The campaign was instigated by Chairman Mao Zedong.
