Left Retro, Right Fashion

In recent years, with the revival of folk culture, as well as the prevalence of the concept of the pursuit of tradition, lots of different kinds of folk arts have become very popular, among young people. Cross talk is one kind of folk art in China, it is lively and involves comic dialogues peppered with sarcasm and irony. Today listening to crosstalk has once again become a fashionable activity, with many groups especially the young people.

Opera, folk music and ancient poetry are often forms of culture that also now like to use new elements combined with the old, resulting in a subtle, sad, elegant musical style.

Kunqu Opera in particular is one of the oldest forms of opera still existing in China, with its origins dating back to the end of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). It has distinguished itself by the virtuosity of its rhythmic patterns and has exerted a dominant influence on all the more recent forms of opera in China, including the Sichuan and Beijing operas.

The Vice president of the North Theatre, said that every month they have one or two performances in Beijing University, Qinghua University and the Communication university of China, almost every time, have to prepare extra seats.

After the end of the performances, students ask very professional questions, let the vice president of the North Theatre feel very surprised. The numbers of fans of opera increases every year, young people abroad, are also interested in the costumes, make-up, and often ask to try on clothing backstage.

Universities are a center to spread culture and fashion, the higher educational level of the population, accepts the new cultural ideas much easier. Introducing the opera in the class makes a growing number of "new generations", fall in love with opera.

Retro does not means old, rather it is people cherishing the memory of the past time, while also advocating a simpler way of life.
