Bullfighting in Chinese Way

In preparation stage, the authoritative middlemen shuttle between the bulls and gather all the available information such as the bulls’ height, weight and age. Then, with the consent of the bull owner, they pair up bulls for fights and the festival is ready.

Before the bullfighting begins, some bull owners feed their bulls glutinous rice and even let them drink a cup of beer to boost fighting spirit.

Unlike Spanish bullfighting, Miao bullfighting is mainly between bulls, but they are no less the thrills. In the first stage, two bulls are led on a tour around the stadium, familiarizing with the surroundings and the other bull. In the second stage, the two bulls are dragged by rope to the middle of the arena, with their horns facing each other. When the rope is unleashed, the fight formally begins. The spectators wave flags and shout battle cries in support of their favorite bulls. Some let off fireworks to add to the frenzy. The bull-owner is even allowed to push his bull for an advantage over the adversary. The callous nature of the fighting results in some inevitable bull fatalities. In the final stage, badly wounded or dead bulls are pulled out of the ring and the remaining bull is declared the ultimate winner, crowned with laurel and given huge respect and admiration for its owner.

The festival normally lasts at least 3 days, with every participant in delirium and complete relaxation. Next time, if you're eager to experience the bullfighting thrills, come to Kaiyang County and enjoy the fun.
